Idolatry – esteeming something to be more worthy of our devotion than our devotion to God.
You could say that I’m in full-time ministry because I work at a church. You could say I’m a spiritual leader because I lead a Bible study. You could say I’m an “on fire” Christian because I care about the things of God.
You could say those things. But they wouldn’t really matter.
I don’t care about any of those things right now.
All of those things have been more worthy of my devotion than my devotion to God. It is easy to be consumed by sharpening your skills for God.
It’s always been easy for me to do that.
What’s hard is to devote just myself to God. Not my gifts and skills . . . just me.
To not constantly be asking God to make me more effective and better at ministry and what I do, but to make me better. To gut me from the inside. To draw me closer.
I just wanted to be devoted to God.
