I was talking with Pastor Branker last week and something finally clicked in my head. I had alluded to it previously, but it made more sense when he said it.
I suggested (and still suggest) all interns should be weary of being too focused on God’s vision for their life. By doing so, they may miss out on God’s “breaking process.” Now, let’s “raise the lid” on that thought . . .
For me personally, I know there is more to God. You can’t read the adventures of Jesus, the disciples, and Paul and the other apostles and not see lives full of zeal and passion for the things of God. You can’t help but see the power and authority that follow those fully devoted to Jesus.
That’s the driving force and motivation for my desire to know more of God. I can read the Bible and see the “fruits” of people who somehow got to that point.
And talking with Pastor Branker, I probably let off the vibe that I was striving for that same type of zeal and outward passion. In response, he said God will often give us an image which will produce a “holy discontentment.” The holy discontentment causes you to seek God more in hopes of fulfilling or achieving that image.
The problem, however, is that the image was not the end goal. The image was motivation. The end goal is always more of God, more of Jesus.
Hebrews 11:13-16
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country
