Dear prospective intern,
Having the confidence of God is one of the most valuable assets a person can have.
I think back to when I first joined EDJ, what a huge thing it was to know that I had prayed about EDJ for two months and that I knew it was what God wanted me to do.
It is the kind of confidence that drives a person to persevere despite temptations, trials, and doubt. The same confidence Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had in the face of the fiery furnance.
Daniel 3:16-17 … “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnance, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.
Inevitably, over the course of the internship you will come face to face with a lot of things that will cause you to doubt the path you’re currently on. Things that will make you grow weary and lose heart. At times you may even wonder why you’re in the internship. Why you’re working so hard and who you’re even working so hard for?
I’ve been there. Ask me about it sometime.
It was at those times I was able to remember the confidence I had when I first took the step of faith to join the internship. That confidence let me know the pain I was feeling was because I was walking on the path of God. It wasn’t because I made the wrong decision.
Settle it in your heart early that you’re confident the internship is God’s will for your life. Even if that takes tons of fasting, weeks of prayer, or months of petition.
The comfort you’ll gain from that knowledge far exceeds the time you’ll spend getting the answer from God.
Then when you find yourself walking through fire, you’ll react like a person who is confident in their current situation. Confident that any rocky terrain you encounter has nothing to do with your decision making and everything to do with God’s leading.
Guard that confidence. Remember it. Have faith in it.
It will allow you to embrace the path God takes you down.
Sincerely,
-Alex
