Backup your phone contacts for free (Verizon customers)

Did you know Verizon has a free solution for backing up your phone’s contacts? I didn’t until I accidentally ran into it today looking for a new phone. Let me introduce you to Backup Assistant.

Typically, the service costs $1.99/month but as long as you are a paying customer, have a “My Account” login, and have a compatible phone, the monthly fee is waived. My Account is a free service provided by Verizon and is basically your standard online account management portal. You can view your monthly statements, bay your bill, etc.

Not only does it backup your contacts, but it also lets you view/edit them online. Any edits you make on the web can also be synced with your phone when you’re finished. Amazing! The real winner here is not having to manually re-enter or go through the trouble of visiting a local dealer to transfer contacts to a new phone.

Backup Assistant + My Account = Free Online Contact Management and Backup Solution

I just tested it out and it worked flawlessly. I added a test contact, told it to sync up with my phone, and a couple of minutes later, voila! I had Mr. Test Contact in my phone. Backup Assistant can also be setup to backup your contacts daily.

Though i am not a verizon user, i have been using one such for some time now. Its zyb.com and it not only backs up contacts but also calendar and sms and they are also offerinf their service for free. So may be verizon thought, they should not charge either.

Heya Ciara,

Thanks for the heads up on http://www.zyb.com. It looks like a good solution, unfortunately, it doesn’t support my phone.

But for those who are not on Verizon, it’s definitely worth checking out.
