The Ministry Shuffle

One of the biggest issues I see with people in ministry is finding their niche. Where exactly has God “called” me? That’s evident at Celebration when you see periodic shifting of staff to completely different areas.

I know it’s partly due to a need, but I also know it’s partly because people are not content with where they’re currently at and are searching for their perfect ministry role. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to life in the ministry.

Realistically, working for a church I don’t think anyone will find their perfect ministry position. Where they get to do what they’re passionate about day in and day out without having to do any work that’s detestable to them.

This is the realization I’m finding myself as I’m nearing the end of my internship and pondering what exactly my life is going to look like in ministry. In the natural, I see a lot of crap work in my future. ;)

But you know what? We don’t have to wait for the church to put us in positions where we can function in our giftings and passions. If they’re really our giftings and passions, we should be willing to create opportunities on our own because it is that important to us.

So . . . don’t wait for the perfect role to happen, make the perfect role happen. Who says your church job has to be your primary ministry?
